Thanks for your reply. I have had the device over a year with no problems. I use Windows on both Desktop and Laptop. The device is not making any noise when installed i.e. Nothing happens or shows up, on the computer to indicate it is even installed, hence my query that maybe (in hope ) the cable is damaged. The cable is a usb 3.0 and the drive is powered by connection to the computer / laptop.
Clearly this isnt a PC problem but instead a problem associated with the drive. Is there a way you can swap the cable? Canon ip6600d driver for mac.

I'll check on the updated post. Hi, Update as promised. I took the external drive to an electronic store and asked if I could test my drive with a new cable as I thought my cable was damaged. They were very helpful and opened a cable from the shelf and connected it to the drive and there system.

I confirmed that the drive was dead as with a new cable the drive was not responding. Options are to check when I bought it to see if it is still under warranty, buy an new cover at €24.00, as the tec in the store thinks the connections at the face of the drive may be the issue? Or finally forget about it and move on. Thanks for your advice.
